Moon Viewing

across Nations

Moon viewing during the autumn harvest is a significant cultural event throughout many Asian countries, and it has evolved into a vibrant tradition over generations.

For this project, I examined the various ways in which different regions celebrate these festivities, highlighting each culture's unique interpretation of the tradition. Serving as both designer and illustrator, I conducted research on each participating culture and region before creating artwork inspired by traditional folklore and symbolic items.

For this illustration, I conducted comprehensive research on the diverse varieties of mooncakes produced by various provinces and ethnic groups in China, as well as additional types originating from regions such as Southeast Asia and Japan.

Based on these findings, I created an artistic chart that visually represents each mooncake alongside its respective name and place of origin.

To extend a product range for the holiday festivities, I designed a magnetic bookmark and a matching vinyl sticker with illustrations depicting the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Chinese folklore- the story of Chang-e.

The reception was so well received for the Mid- Autumn festival products that we designed another magnetic bookmark along with vinyl stickers with a composition based on the Japanese moon folklore for Tsukimi festival.
